My Gardening Habit

A regular and reliable gardening habit is just as important to a successful garden as any of its physical elements. Not long ago I found myself distracted, disheartened and quite overwhelmed by my neglected garden.  My garden is important to me, but it's no longer the priority hobby in my busy life.  This is the (ongoing) story of how I got my gardening mojo back by very deliberately creating a gardening habit. 

 
 

Why I needed a Gardening Habit

Four years after moving in, my ambitious permaculture-inspired garden was mostly set up. I'd joyfully dug up lawns, planted trees, laid paths, built hugelkulture beds and an elaborate chicken coop. But once the structure and most perennial plants were in place, the enthusiasm of establishment needed to give way to habits of maintenance. A distinctive gardening habit

My approach to gardening is to concentrate on producing food, attracting bees and building soil. This means a lush profusion of diverse plants, planted in lots of curves with little or no exposed soil. I have a high tolerance for weeds, especailly those that I or my chickens like to eat.
